Character Designs

Post by Dan Santat » Mon May 19, 2008 3:51 pm

Here are some character designs I've been working on for a personal project. I was never really strong with drawing females so I spent some extra time on them.

These are awesome! I think your female designs are great so the extra time must have been worth it. Can I ask what the project is for?

Great Body Language And Clothes

Post by sharpclaw » Fri May 23, 2008 7:14 am

I really like the body language and the clothing choices. They express the characters well!

The face and body language of the girl on the left do not entirely mesh for me. Her body language and clothes reflect someone who is proud and athletic. Her face seems a little quieter, though.

I particularly like the face, clothing, and body language of the girl with the backpack and glasses. You included a lot of touches that really make the character, like the baggy sweater and position of her feet.

Looking over this I would have never guessed that you have a hard time drawing girls. I'd almost say that tehy look better than the boys.

I think they're all great, but at first I thought the nerdy shy girl looked disproportionate, then realized she was just pulling her sleeve down. Silly me. I don't really like that girl because she reminds me of somebody who I don't really like from my most recent past, but the designs look really nice save for the fact that I don't think it's humanly possible for the shy girl's legs to actually be able to do that but...meh, whatever.
I'm my own breed of eccentric.

Hi Dan,

I love the personalities in all of them.

1 small crit if you don't mind, I think the overall shape and pose of the 2 girls on the left are a little too similar. The interior details on them are great but I think maybe tweaking the goth girls head shape a little more and even her arm positioning will really distinguish her attitude and personality. By doing that, it will only strengthen the athletic "popular" girl even more.

Hope that makes sense.

Again, just a tiny crit, I hope it helps in some way. Keep rocking away man!

Best,
Pat
