What are good things to paint on small canvases?

Post by ZidaneTheKing » Fri Dec 29, 2006 12:22 pm

I got a tiny 5x7 inch canvas from my mother who wants me to show her my painting skills. I've only painted on larger surfaces before, I'm wondering what would work to paint on such a thing.

isn't that just slightly bigger than your typical photo? yeesh... um... well I'd either paint a fragment of a larger piece you're proud of or can cut out, or maybe something you're mother's already familiar with.

It's hard to do art for parents, mine no longer want to read my stuff because "they don't get it".

Anyway... best of luck.

I know this may be a little late, but I for one think you can't go wrong with just doing a small study painting outdoors. I think the main key however would be to use the small canvas to do a piece of art from life. Get outside, freeze your butt off, paint like a mo fo. These are the hardships us artists must face. 8)

Hi, I recently went to an amateur art festival. This one exhibit had huge panoramic canvas pictures of landscape photos. Up close the pictures looked like oil paintings, but they were actually digital photos printed on this canvas as art. The pieces were expensive. I was wondering if anyone knew any more on this subject. Is there a special name for this process of digital photography onto canvas art? Please help me out.

Small things at actual size.

Or large things, painted small.
