travel sketchbook (updated 20/03, now w/ more Batman!)

Post by bluebottle » Sat Apr 12, 2008 10:11 am

hi all, it has been a long, long time since i have had a chance of being on here so a lot of you may not even have seen my work before but... here goes.
i have just arrived back home (Sydney, Australia) after having spent the last two years, nearly, in the Americas. one year in Central America, 6 months in South America and 4 months in North America just travelling (w/ a month in Europe for good measure), volunteering and the ocasional odd job. i kept a sketchbook (well three by end) and just posting up some from the third sketchbook.
hope you enjoy

(sorry about quality but no use of scanner at the moment. all photos)

Image
some hearts are true
Silver Mt Zion lyric. the cover for the third book. first two books we're all just watercolours, for third i decided to get a darker paper and use a more collage style. my backpack was mostly art supplies, snorkel gear not leaving much space for clothes and such but oh so worth it.

Image
day 343: brainfreeze
after a bbq at a friends place in Guatemala. originally planned on spending 3 to 4 weeks in Guatemala. by the time i left it was 11 months later. wonderful people.

Image
day 348: stare into space
love Amelie

Image
day 351: i'll be dreaming my dreams
circus came to town so we took a little Mayan girl, who we knew from town, and her friends there for her 9th birthday. also used a similar drawing for the menu board at a French Creperie in Antigua, Guatemala, where i lived for six months.

Image
day 379: the view from here
near Semuc Champay in Guatemala there is this cave which you explore for about two hours, there and back, by candle light which you carry. sometimes having to swim for 20 metres or so at a time, climb against a waterfall, jump into black and squeeze through a small hole underwater. incredible.

Image
day 380: tickle
Tikal, an absolutely amazing place.

Image
day 382: gathering storm
in Belize now. the dress is a local flower i dried and stuck on.

Image
day 398: i love the sound of snow falling
in Honduras where i spent nearly a month diving. money not worth much but made for a useful background. quote by Joey Comeau.

Image
day 399: i hope you are a disaster
based on Fiona, a girl i was w/ for a while.

Image
day 409: your move... no, it's mine.
just gotten back into Guatemala once again. one of my favourite sketches. little girl in place where i was staying was playing chess by her own rules. also went tortoise hunting w/ her little brother (released them back after).

Image
day 421: down came the rain and washed the spider out
went to New York and Quebec for four months in between Central and South America (doesn't make much sense i know but...)
tis was in Central Park.

Image
day 428: (no) parking
loved hanging out in the parks in Montreal.

Image
day 432: i don't care said pierre, i'm from france.
the quote is from South Park. statue is in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Image
day 434: tengo la camisa negra
was reading Don Quixote at the time...

too many pictures in one post?

will post part two a bit later
thank you for looking

Oh wow, this is great. They all look awesome but I'd imagine these scans are nothing compared to holding the real thing in your hands, very inspirational.
