Vegemite is by far the foulest tasting spread in existence.

But I can't stop eating it.

By the way, Vegemite could kick Marmite's ass any day of the week... because it's growing stronger every week... and it puts a rose on every cheek... (sorry, that's part of the Vegemite jingle.)

i've tasted Vegemite once. my good australian friend Jade brought a jar with her when we met in NY. i liked it and think i could eat more if it was readily available here in France.
Nutella on the other hand is so good it's like a drug, so i've stopped buying it. i can eat a whole jar in one setting. not good for my "love-handles"... yes i know i should control myself...

I'm an Aussie myself and I don't mind Vegemite. It IS well known here, but not everyone likes it. Its no so much an aquired taste as most people put it on like other spreads.

See, the thing about vegemite is that you can in no way have it in the same amounts as, say, peanut butter (which we eat here too, and is probably more widely liked than vegemite - at least tastewise) cos vegemite is VERY strong flavour-wise. If I put any more than a very light smidge on, its way too salty and pretty gross. If used in minimal amounts, however, it is quite tasty on toast or in sandwiches. I had vegemite and cheese sandwiches for school lunch for years when I was a kid. The cheesy taste counteracts the salty vegemite nicely.

And marmite is way different. Its pretty rare here, too.

heh heh...when i started reading this thread, i was like, "Hope has a boyfriend??"...and then I noticed the date, and realized, she and Mal weren't married yet when it was written. ;)

anyway i've always been interested in trying vegemite, but never so much so as to actually buy a jar. they used to sell it at the store i worked at (which was in san francisco).

Hell yeah!

Marmite doesn't really bother me, but I suppose I lean towards Bleurgh more than yum. My mate has made spreading marmite into an art form and the surface inside the pot is always glacial after use, now he's in NY i don't know how he'll survive.

The adverts are always pretty weird too.

I'm going to have to find some Vegimite to try. I was in France and they love Nutella especially on crepes and for breakfast so good. Vegimite is on my list of things to give a try. Can we get Vegimite here in the states?

It's 6.50am and I haven't gone to bed yet
Think I'll go downstairs and have some marmite on toast for breakfast.
