Joe Hisaishi

I love Joe Hisaishi. I think his best album would be Kikujiro. I listen to it over and over again and never get tired of the themes. Just about every track is wonderful, the happiness of "summer", "going out", the sad elegance of "rain", "mother", the tenderness of "kindness", "angel bell". The only track that I think is not so good for stand alone listening is "nightmare". But it's still my favorite Hisaishi soundtrack. Heck, it could very well be my favorite soundtrack of all, period. It's too bad him and Kitano don't want to work together anymore.

I'd say his second best soundtrack for listening overall is Porco Rosso.

Joe Hisaishi is great.

My personal favorites is his work on Kitano's films "Hana-bi" and "A Scene at the Sea." I was able to find "Hisaishi meets Kitano" and its now disc three in my car stereo.

It's too bad Kitano and Hisaishi don't work together anymore though. :(

Alphabet City is my current favorite of his, next up is the Venus Wars soundtrack. Some of the best 80's J-POP can be found on this record.
