Post by Scott Hallett » Thu Sep 07, 2006 7:06 pm

Here's a drawing I did a few months back that I'm pretty proud of. Let me know what you guys think!

I like it.
The colour version actually made me think of the robots in Laputa: Castle in the sky, even though the design is completely different. It just has the same sort of feel about it.

I really like the texture on that dirt path. I think the perspective might be a little off on the top cliff with the tree. I don't think you would be able to see the top of it like that. It would be more like the cliff in the background that you're looking up at.

In keeping with the odd, dirty robot theme here's another quick sketch I did at lunch a while back, then coloured in photoshop. Comments and criticisms welcome.

in your first drawing, i really like how much detail and thought you've put into it. the mushrooms growing off the tree and the other stylized flora really add to the depth of the work. the way you shaded and colored the picture is also really well done. something about your linework is really refreshing.

one of the criticisms i have is the rocks falling off of his body. they're falling straight down, which makes sense, but if he were shruggins some off his body it seems like some would be flying in slightly curved trajectories. they also form an almost perfect arc, which to me is distracting and a little unnatural. also, asside from the bg, the value is somewhat the same between the robot and the foreground/middleground. if you pushed the darkness on the robot a bit further, you could create some really nice focus/depth. overall, i think your robots rock, and love your background :) keep up the great work!

Here's another robot picture. I've always wanted to color this one, but I'm afraid my skill level may not be up to what I see in my head. Please let me know what you think!
