Thanks guys. A lot of the work I do to pay the bills is of this variety... it used to be models and textures in Maya, but doing these types of illos are much more fun. :)

Brad, Michael > the original size of the file is 3500 pixels wide. And yep, it's Photoshop...

It feels good to get to do these types of pieces sometimes, since so much of the techniques used to render realistically can apply to comics and cartoons, or at least I try to employ them whenever I do my work. Anyway, this was done as a sample for freelance work, since the job requires fantasy painting and I never did a painting in this genre before. Even if I don't get the gig, I'll probably do a few more of these for fun...

So we win either way! Here's hoping you land it, man. That is some mighty purty artwork.

Great piece, and I'd love to know your technique for texturing. It was great in Daisy Kutter but it's shining here!

DUDE! I near shat myself when I saw this at work today. I was desperate to post but unfortunately I've been banned from commenting here whilst at work  so i have to wait until i get home on my shitty dialup.

But enough of my tales of woe...this kicks some serious ass and in answer to the question on your blog - Yes, please post more of this kind of stuff.
