Goin Nutty - my first illustrated game

Post by chirpingames » Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:54 pm

Hi everyone,
My name is Mark White. I'm a web designer/ illustrator from Melbourne, Australia and wanted to create a little project for myself using my drawing and illustration skills in my spare time.

So i created an iPhone game called 'Goin Nutty'. The aim of the game is to help Squeako the Squirrel fill his belly by eating all the nuts as they fall from the trees! I spent a lot of time developing the character: sketching and illustrating him and then finally animating him. I also illustrated 5 backgrounds for the game as well as some menus and put the game together using a program called Game Salad.

I'd love to know everyones thoughts on my illustrations and if anyone else is using there skills to work on a similar project?

For more info you can view http://www.goinnutty.com as well!

Thanks,
Mark White

Thanks Habel, Just saw your game too. Looks great!
You'll have to let me know how you go! Did you code it up yourself?

Wow, that looks so creatively fun to make! I like the illustrative fun style, and the early sketches you did on the design of the game. How complex is it to use that program? I've always wanted to make my own game and even sketched out ideas, characters, backgrounds all stored on file when I have the opportunity to make one. I just don't know how to put one together(and I don't have an iphone). Do you need to be advanced to construct an idea you have as far as specific actions, motions with the Iphone interface? Or is it more limited to the program templates?

Hi Mike T,
Just checked out your blog, your work is amazing! I think your style would really suit games esp on the iPhone. I used Game Salad: www.gamesalad.com to make it, its a really basic and easy to use program... the only thing is you have to have a mac. If you've got one though, I'd recommend downloading the program and just playing around with it. It was made for designers so it has a really easy to use interface. I'm def not a coder and still managed to make what i wanted!
Thanks for the comments and good luck!
