Is fanart discouraged? Here are some of mine

Post by stickyfish » Tue Jan 26, 2010 11:40 am

Hi, this is my first art post. Do people mostly post their images in the same thread?

Along with original art, I also love to draw fanart and I pay homage to almost everything. Do you ever get the feeling that most fanart out there is anime/Twilight related? Not that that's bad. Fanart is the biggest compliment you can give to an artist/artistic creation.

During the past few years, I've fallen in love with inking but I used to do all my work digitally. Feels a little bit like I'm de-evolving with tech trends but it's all good. Anyway, any feedback would be great.

I don't think fanart is discouraged here. I mean, I'm not discouraging it!

The Katamari one is really cute. Mmmm, Prince-maki.
And I like the Braid one a lot, especially the running dude. Nice job on the fabric.
What scene is that from Brave New World?

Thanks guys! I partially colored the Braid image yesterday:

I added the paper texture for effect.

As for Brave New World, these are the lines I liked. I made the picture feel darker than it was though... Maybe because the book was depressing in general.
And round her waist she wore a silver-mounted green morocco-surrogate belt, bulging(for Lenina was not a freemartin) with the regular supply of contraceptives.

"Perfect!" cried Fanny enthusiastically. She could never resist Lenina's charm for long. "And what a perfectly sweet Malthusian belt!"

"I simply must get one like it," said Fanny.

I think the color really brings out the Braid picture, and I like the paper effect. Sometimes I think digital colors don't have enough texture.

And yeah, Brave New World is a depressing book. I remember the scene now.

Haha, I really like the Katamari and Batman ones.

Mirrors are easier if you draw through the head so you know the full volume and then you know exactly what will be reflected in the mirror.
I keep a sketchblog here

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try drawing mirrors again soon. Here's some Wolverine fanart. Except he's a clone and something's gone terribly wrong.

Oops, I lost track of this thread for a little while. Here's a fan art I did of someone's original character. I liked that he liked eating black carrots. My artistic license made them huge shiny black carrots.
