The World of Baeg Tobar

Post by JerMohler » Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:02 am

Hey folks!

Allow me to introduce myself - I am a freelance illustrator and designer based out of Lawrence, Kansas. I've been around the FLIGHT forums before, it's just been a while.

Anyway, for the last four or five years, I've been working on a huge, extremely ambitious project called Baeg Tobar. This is my baby - it's basically fantasy with a bit of steampunk mixed in. It involves an extremely massive world that we spent a lot of time creating and a huge number of writers and artists have spent fleshing out.

We're gearing up to relaunch the project in October - we'll have an ongoing webcomic, short stories, novels, and various encyclopedic type entries and artwork for people to get to know the world better through reading. All of this will be tied to the central storyline (the webcomic) and will release as we progress through the storyline. We're also working on an RPG and an online game as well, so, we've got a lot of material coming together!

So, to get us ready for our relaunch in October, I thought I'd start by sharing some of the artwork we've been working on.

Here is the cover (when it's complete, we'll be including a logo on the left along with a small amount of teaser text) of the webcomic. I'll be posting more pages over the next few weeks as I complete them and get everything ready for launch. Scott Colby and Daniel Gooden are writing the story, Alan Gallo did the pencils, and I'll be doing the colors and letters.

Of course we would love to hear your feedback!

This is very slick work - may I ask, how large do you draw your originals, and what tools do you use to make such fine ink lines? Is it digital?

Mr. Average - Thanks for the kind words! I didn't actually draw these, they were drawn by Alan Gallo. I believe these are drawn at full size, 10x15, and aren't ink, but tight pencils.

Also, looks like we're live!

Just thought I'd pop in and mention that. I'll be posting some more artwork up next week as well.

Looking forward to hearing what everybody thinks!

Howdy folks!

So, we're launched and online, finally. Which means you can actually go read the story at http://www.baegtobar.com. Just click on that "webcomic" link on the left.

That also means I have more art to put up here to show a little bit more of the process. Here's the next page -

I thought I might also throw up the actual finished cover (with title and credits) as well.

There is also a myriad of other material to be found over at the website. Please, check it out and let us know what you think!

Thanks Arrow! I worked with Alan to sort of get a feel similar to my own pencil work. I think he did a great job on it, myself, and I appreciate that you are liking our two styles together. And I'm pleased you like the site so far - if you dig what's going up, you are going to like all the stuff we have planned coming up. We've got a lot of content that will be updating over the next months and hopefully years. Right now, the book isn't available in print. But we're actually working on that. We're putting together PDF downloads as well as a version for the Kindle. These are a little ways out at the moment, though. Hopefully we'll have some news about that soon.

Hey folks!

Here's the next page. We get to delve into the recesses of Boruin's mind. Seems remarkably like a library...heh. Anyway, hope you dig the artwork as we move along on this!
