Animation WIP: The Pilot

Post by Michael J. Dowswell » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:57 pm

Hey everybody,

Thursday, 3 July 2008 I secretly started to work on another animation...the computer was rendering out another shot for “The Rescue” I was getting really bored and drifted into a idea I’ve had for some time now about a much shorter animation...and surprisingly...a colour animation.

I dived into it and got onto a real roll with it, for some reason I’m very frightened of colour and don’t do much in colour, but I had colour ideas stewing away for a while in my head...and I have to say, I’m really happy at how its come out so far.

Thanks everybody!

You really like it?

I’m so incredibly up and down on how I feel about my work, I get excited and love what I’ve made and then it seems to go, I seem to start to not like it...but...I *can* come back round to liking it again.

I've done some more on it.

Funny what a little color will do for you, innit?

Funny, I'm not hearing anyone accusing you of ripping off whats-his-name this time, either.

Hmm. How bout them apples? :)

Thanks Squirpy :)

They're taken from my other character, but altered slightly :)

Here's a scene I made today, I've got some ideas for some inside stuff but I dont know, it seems to be growing into a bigger thing, but really, I should concentrate to do a short short.

I’m just coming to the end of my work on The Rescue...my other animation, and I just had a look at how the entire thing played out, parts one, two and three all together...I was really very depressed straight after seeing it...

...I was that depressed that I had to immediately jump into this 3d file and work on this, adding a wee bit more detail to it...the colour seems to be slightly therapeutic I think.

I was trying to think of what your latest shots remind me of - and I finally got it! The colors and atmosphere look kind of like photos of deep sea wrecks - where the submarine's light casts an orange glow, but everything fades away to green/blue tones quickly.
Not that yours looks like it's underwater, it's just an unusual color palette.

I think it did actually, it's funny how maybe diong things in colour might have some kind of medicinal thing going on. :)

Hehe, quite interesting that. I just had some colours jump into my head, but your definitely right about the whole ship wreck thing. its the rivets and the bright orange.

Here’s a shot rendered out. I’m having some problems with my ancient video editing software though to get the colours right.
