Getting Started with Photoshop Elements 5- Help Please

Post by JGrubber » Sat May 17, 2008 8:46 pm

2 questions:

Okay, I have scanned pencil image at 600dpi, in grayscale.

Whats next?

1. I have been told to adjust contrast and brightness by some (which I usually do), to eliminate the noise in the image, but others have said to do it a different way and it will look better/stay non-chunky. I can't recall how- any suggestions?

2. Layers- How many should I have- and what should they be for? Is one for black, one for base colours, another for highlights etc.? What is this about transparency etc. Can I just make a bunch of layers to start (copies of background) and then adjust them one at a time for my purposes?

I haven't done any of this before, and would really appreciate a few tips and pointers to get me started.

thanks

john

Man. I'd say you need to ink that thing first. A lot of guys color straight from pencil... even myself on occasion, but that thing is kind of a mess. You're going to lose some of your more subtle line work because it's so close in tone to the gray of the paper if you just go willy-nilly adjusting levels.

As for your question. There are a ton of tutorials on computer coloring and a good chunk of them pertain to comics coloring specifically. I found this one, which is alright I think for beginners after a quick, lazy google search:

Thanks for the reply.

I must have been drinking when i wrote that other one- of course I would have it inked before colouring...

As far as the tutorial goes, it does look like a good one- thanks. I have searched for them before, but its like looking for a needle in a stack of needles- its hard to know when you've found what you need when you don't know what it should look like.

thanks,

john
