Monster Designs

Post by agent44 » Thu Mar 20, 2008 6:32 am

I recently finished these monster designs for an independent video game called Castor. You can see a movie and some images from the game here. It’s been a side project and labor of love for the past few years for Mike Smith a video game developer in Seattle. He asked if I wouldn’t mind coming up with some enemies for it. How could I say no to drawing monsters?

Mike wanted the monsters to have an insect like quality to them. So I tried to infuse exoskeleton architecture to some beastly shapes. I think it worked with the land and water based designs. The air based designs, though fearsome, still feel more like annoying bugs than flying monsters.

Who doesn't like monsters?
These are cool

I do want to see that last one move though....does he pull his body on the ground?

I'd say that what makes the insecty ones insecty is the combination of large and tiny parts. Some of them doesnt quite have that and then they tend to feel more like... well something else at least.

I like the second air based one quite a lot. And all of the land based ones are excellent.
