Scott's Stuff (01/16/2009)

I did a pinup of the main character in the comic Aqua Leung by Mark Andrew Smith and Paul Maybury. Kind of fun to take a crack at someone else's character.

I like that palette, but there's something wonky with the lighting: the light seems to be coming into the water from above and behind, but the shadows are cast as if they're above, front, and to the left. But you really did capture a feeling of depth and being underwater - good stuff.

Thanks Joe!

Threshold: I see what you're saying. I was trying to accomplish that odd lighting that occurs underwater where light sources are a bit omnidirectional, while retaining a bit of shadow for tension. Thanks for looking!

I'm just going to start posting everything in one thread. Here's the last two Drawer Geeks topics "Red Necks" (which I think I posted already) and "Lord of the Rings".

I love the background for your ringwraith piece. Those wet and foggy woods look awesome, and since I'm an Oregonian I should know.

The ringwraith looks great. Its amazing how a single texture thrown over a digital image can just make the whole thing pop.

I keep wanting the guy punching the bone dragon to have a more exaggerated pose. The colors on that one are very nice, though. Who would think you could make pastels manly? hehe.

io, Third Red, Blom: Thanks for looking!

Dr_Watsman: Thanks, I think it takes a special type of spaceman to make pastels manly ;)

Your colors are very accomplished. They don't seem overworked at all.

I add my voice to the others that love the ringwraith. Great atmosphere on that one.

Thanks io! Giant trees are right up there with giant robots and giant monsters for me!

Speaking of giants, this week at Drawer Geeks the topic was "Galactus"...

cool stuff...but is it just me or do you spend a little more time and energy on creatures and monsters than human characters? sometimes the inking feels a bit like it could use some varying line weights...
