ROOK CITY is BACK!

Post by Seth Wolfshorndl » Wed Mar 08, 2006 9:16 pm

Hey, guys.

This is a newer weekly webcomic I am doing called ROOK CITY. There are 11 pages so far. You can read more by clicking the image and then clicking on First.

If you're wondering why this page is not standard comic dimensions, it's because it is being printed weekly in the Kansas City Star during March and this is their format. We're using this as a launchpad for Rook City as a weekly webcomic. A page a week at www.rookcity.com! We'll be updating on Tuesdays.

Anyway, I'd really love to hear comments and crits from you all. There is always good, honest feedback given on this forum. So have at it!

Thanks for looking!

-Seth

I dig the style of this comic. You could probably push the white outline in the first couple of panels a little bit thicker. I think it will look a tad cleaner.

I like the main character being lost in his written world. However, because I saw the gag coming it didn't payoff for me. That's just something to watch out for. Now, I'm gonna go read your other ones. Keep it going.

Thanks for the feedback, Neil.

You're right about the white outlines and the lack of surprise. The fact that he lets himself get caught up in his imagination is the main thing I want to get across about the character. But I wish I could do a better job of surprising people.

The next few pages kind of riff on the same theme in a slightly different way each time. We'll see if it works or not.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys!

Yeah, I'm really going for the noir feel. Trying not to go too over the top with it though. Basically, Toby (the main character) is in love with the idea of being a detective and lets his imagination run away with him. Not all of the future stories will be like this. I'm just trying to set up some things about his personality.

I was a little happier with page 2 than page 1. Remember, there's another 10 page story up in the archives at www.rookcity.com.

Here's the last page of this current story... but remember Rook City is still continuing as a weekly webcomic after this week. I'll post at least the first pages of the next story next week.

Thanks again for all the helpful comments so far, guys.

On a semi unhelpful/unrelated note, rook city is a really freakin' awesome name. =] The word Rook alone is awesome, good choice. =] I'd instantly pick something up with that title and flip through it on a shelf.
