Smithson by Shaenon Garrity and Brian Moore

Post by B Moore » Thu Jan 05, 2006 1:40 pm

These are some panels from Smithson, written by Shaenon Garrity of Narbonic fame and drawn by me (of no particular fame.)

The strip is generally done in an "infinite canvas" format; these complete strips are about 2800 pixels wide and appear in an iframe on the page, so you use the scrollbar to see the whole thing. (Clicking on the pics below will bring you to the full strip.)

Smithson is a college strip whose plot is slowly building up. At the moment we have a non-powered superhero (the nerd in the glasses) who has yet to actually catch a crook, a black magic cult disguised as a campus a capella group, and a ex-child prodigy whose genius was accidentally obliterated during brain surgery.

C&C are appreciated on the art! I'm still figuring out what the heck I'm doing. I know that I definitely need more practice at caricature and character design.

Hee hee hee- I love this. "A superhero would do something like this." I've felt like that (not that I actually did what the superhero would have... I almost did...) Sorry, I can't come up with any critiques for the art. I'm too blown away by the writing I think. :D

New strip today (and several in between the last post and this.)

Next week, the amazing Roger Langridge (Fred the Clown, Fing Fang Four, and many more) returns to the strip with another look at the mysterious ex-child prodigy, Darryl O'Doyle. The supernatural/romance/superhero plot keeps thickening ...

I went through the archives, and I really like the story so far. I also like how the characters are rendered out. Can't wait to see more!
