MYTH - Sci-Fi/Fantasy Graphic Novel

Post by briantaylor » Sat Oct 10, 2009 2:20 pm

Hi All!

So I've decided to start posting art for the graphic novel submission that I've been working on. Kinda nervous as this is the first time that I've posted anything about the book online, other than my blog. Hopefully I don't suck TOO bad  .

The plan is to finish up the proposal (completed scene, one-page outline, query letter, concept art), find an agent, and then get it in front of book publishers. The book itself will be an all-ages sci-fi/fantasy adventure series (3 books) set on another world. Here is the cover and the first couple of pages to the completed scene. More pages coming soon!

It's a real pleasure to see a genuinely unique style. Too much of this kind of comic is derivative, artistically. Not so, here - the limited color palette and the narrow but cleanly-defined linework is excellent and sets a very consistent tone. I look forward to seeing more!

All right, Brian! I like the feel of this, and I especially dig the character design of the big guy.

Anxious to see more. Keep us up on it!

Hi Brian,

I agree with all of the above. I really like the style you have chosen it's simple yet elegant and makes it easier to follow as a result.

Good luck.

Nice character design, nice flow of panels, as Kneeshaw says an elegant design. Great work, good luck pitching it!

Your character designs and style are really strong; definitely very professional looking. Good luck with the pitching and keep us updated on how it goes.

This is really nice. The pacing and the action flow well, you have an eye for choosing instances to illustrate. The style, as opposed to some others, I do find reminiscent of some other artist, but overall it is really professional and... confident is the word, I guess. This could very well be published. Heck, I would read it.

Go, man.

Myth is looking like a great start to a graphic novel. I am also in the process of making a graphic novel that I have not shown around yet. I think a book publisher would be a great way to go with this. It defiantly has an animation feel to the character designs and the coloring is really nice and solid. I'm glad you are showing this stuff off.

While I whole heartily agree with all the compliments given here, I have to add that you've done a great job im making me REALLY want to know what everyone is reacting to. GREAT tension building.

Gee thanks guys! I'm stoked that people are actually liking this. I've been meaning to add more pages to this thread...but I got a bit side-tracked this last week with freelance work and throwing together an illustration portfolio for a job interview (yipee!). Anyhow, here are a couple more pages...
