Art Thievin' with Todd Goldman

Post by Joltz » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:10 am

I felt the need to spread word about this. Webcomic artist Dave Kelly, a.k.a. Shmorky, was ripped off by big-name artist Todd Goldman, who designs the infamous "Boys Are Stupid, Throw Rocks At Them!" shirts you'll find in Hot Topic. He traced a drawing from Dave's strip Purple Pussy and sold it in a gallery for big bucks.

I've been a big fan of Dave Kelly since I was young, he being the most prolific and outrageous artist I know. I want to make you all aware that this is happening and urge you not to support Todd Goldman's work.

There's been some really good press on this lately, and some disturbing news...Goldman first issued a statement saying something along the lines of doing homages to artist's who were known pedophiles, and that he only copied Kelly's work because he was a pedophile.

What a baseless, ignorant individual. His lawyers have since started sending cease and desist letters to sites even covering the story. Unbelievable.

Here's a link with a t-shirt summing up the whole thing:

it makes me wish i had a news site so i could get my very OWN todd goldman cease and desist letter.

i sort of feel for his lawyer though. poor guy's probably pulling his hair out over goldman's insistence on being a complete tool.
