24 Hour Comics Day

Post by Veleno » Fri Mar 19, 2004 1:28 am

I'd imagine that most of you are already quite aware of Scott McCloud (after all, he *is* doing the intro to Flight), and that many of you are aware of the concept of a 24 hour comic.

Well, 24 Hour Comics Day is coming up in about a month (April 24) and I though I'd see if anyone here is participating.

I expect to be doing so and may actually take a shot at doing another one even earlier than that.

Mark Batalla, the comics editor at the Nexus talked to a teacher in the film department about funding the 24 hour comic at UCSB. It will save you the trip to the nearest comic shop. I will definitely be participating. Any of the other flight crew gonna be in on this?

Rad > Hmm, I gotta try it at least once. Although you know that every day for me is a 24 hour comics day...

Cal State Fullerton will be having their second annual 24 hour comic marathon on April 24th to coincide with 24 Hour Comic Day..... should be like 15-25 people there I think. Everyone is more than welcome to join us, the more, the merrier!! If someone wants specifics, just private message me. (I think art students are less geeky than comic shop people, or at least art students have a good escuse to be geeky...and they bathe more) :)

Random 24HourComic Notes: Last year UPN News did a story on us, and so did the OCWeekly...We were STARS for a night, although when I was getting interviewed for the OCweekly (at the end of the 24 hours) I remember the reporter's face swirling around, and me trying to sound smart and trying not to screw up what I wanted to say.

I'm in a comic collective in Winnipeg, and I'm trying to get an event together for that. It's like trying to herd cats, though.

I'm probably going to try it this year. I might shorten it to 18 hour comic day, though. :) Hehe. I can't handle staying up for the whole night.

Hey Rad, holding the event at UCSB isn't final yet. I went to a comic shop that plans on participating in the San Fernando Valley and they said they might get the artists from The Red Star to participate in-store. I'll try to keep you guys updated.

Oo.. Ive just recently learned of the event but I will definitely be checking out my local comic book store. I wish I had the time to participate. Perhaps Ill do something in the spirit of 24 hour comic day, when it comes. I hope to see what some of you guys can turn out! :D

I'm planning on meeting up with some of the "Nexus" crew in LA. Hopefully Kazu will be able to join us. Phil? You up for the challenge?

Me and a pal are thinking of doing a 12 hour/12 page comic and putting them together as a mini.

There's so much going on, that I doubt both us can afford a 24 hour stretch in one go.
