Brown Sketchbooks

Hey folks!

I have recently become addicted to sketchbooks with brown paper-- I love being able to build up both dark and light areas (either with white pencil or white gel pen). The problem is finding them! I have a book-bound one that is almost full, but I don't know the brand since it is entirely featureless when new, and I don't remember where I got it! I have some friends with equally featureless spiral-bound ones, and they don't remember where they got theirs either. =p

I've tried Aaron Brothers, Dick Blick, Michael's, Barnes & Noble, Bookstar, and two local art stores. Google doesn't return anything useful for 'sketchbook brown [or tan] pages.'

I have seen the fabriano sketchbooks but ideally I want one that is just brown pages. (About the brown of a grocery sack.) Does anyone here have a source? Or even just a brand name?

Does anyone else like working on toned paper?

I really like those thick, oatmeal pages. They're really good for painting on with gouache, too. I got mine at art center but I guess that doesn't really help...

Actually that does help. I can always drive up there if I get desperate. (I'm in San Diego.) Do they have 'em at a student store on campus or something?

I'm a pretty big fan of working on brown paper, too. Working from a mid-tone toward dark AND light is a nice change of scenery. I usually use brown paper bags though...

I know you listed it but...Barnes & Nobles carries the spiral bound brown paper sketchbooks called "Earth Bound". I see them there all the time...you may have to hunt around.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. I've gotten my hands on the Earthbound spiral-bound notebooks, and now I know where to look for them.
