I really am failing to see what's so great about these guys. Can someone give me an in depth review or point me to one that distills down what they do that's so special? If you don't like them, then you don't like them. I'm not really sure how reading a review about them will influence your decisio...

Aaron > I think it also has a lot to do with the fact that there is hardly anything else out there that IS good. I was just chatting with Doug the other day about this, and we were talking about graphic novels in general, and how the lack of good books makes it easy for books like Flight and Tommys...

Elmore Leonard

Not exactly "literature" but well-known for his work in advancing the crime genre. I've only read Get Shorty and enjoyed it. Any thoughts on him?

If you remotely like the show, you'll like the movie. I'm a relatively casual fan and I enjoyed it. I don't know that it brought any post election healing (apparently Michael Moore hasn't seen it), but it was an entertaining 90 minutes. Definitely check it out, Kazu.

so you're saying it's no Rushmore, but still very Wes Anderson and well-worth your price of admission?

I'd recommend checking out Mike and Don's Animation Show , put together by Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeld. Don's short Billy's Balloon is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. While you won't be able to find a copy unless you know one of the people involved, Doug TenNapel (creator of Ea...

I'm amazed you guys don't like the new modest mouse. perhaps its because that album was my introduction to them. that album has taken me a while, but the more I spin it, the more I like it. Also, no one has mentioned the Killers. Perhaps I'm not cool enough to dislike them? Granted, Somebody Told Me...

there is a more raw version of gone for good that is downloadable in quicktime format on the subpop website. It's the same version that's available on the So Says I single.

I live in a town where the only cool coffee shop went out of business because of poor management. No one has the dough to keep a shop open late so the crew and I can hang out late. Even the locals are only open til 8 or maybe 9, if that. Starbucks is open til 10:30. And let'em bring the music with'e...

This is my introduction to Ted Leo after having heard his name around for quite a while. Completely enjoyable. What album is a good entry point for his work? kinda reminds me of a less quirky Doug Martsch.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to throw my two cents in. I saw them last May in Portland and they have the funniest stage presence. James has this somewhat nervous air, like he is taking it really seriously. The bass player bangs his head like a grunge/metal dude. The keyboard/rhythm...

I've seen Death Cab twice. Once with Pedro the Lion last March, the other a week and a half ago at a local University. They really reproduce their recorded sound well. I wouldn't mind them having a little more energy, but they are definitely worth seeing live. who cares if they signed with Atlantic?...
