Reading over your guys's responses, I understand a little more now why some people like Jim Lee. I think for me I can't connect to his work because I was never into it when I was younger, so I'm looking at it for what it is right now and getting bored. But when I think about the art I was copying an...

All I'm gonna say is that my first hundred drawings or so were anime back when I started drawing in late highschool. Really bad anime too. I hope it never comes to the light of day. Not even my wife has seen the abominations I drew back then. But that said, I can't say I prefer western to Japanese a...

Jim Lee always seemed to represent that early-to-mid 90's style of superhero art that I could barely tolerate. I'll concede that he and McFarlane were basically the best of that approach, but the style itself always seemed to lack serious personality. Everyone tends to look the same, and regular pe...

So here's a little stuff. Enjoy! Fluffy dragon thing. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6392/rlodgetheoldeoneuw1.jpg A commission. Someone wanted an image of a border collie that herds sheep with a biplane. http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/5614/zoom2rv.jpg Another commission, this time for someon...

Awesome work, Jake. It's like looking at a National Geographic from the far future... And that's high praise, since NatGeo is like the ultimate source of visual sweetness to me. Anyone who can pull off that 'feel' truly has a good touch. This is an awesome picture, but it has some logicism issues. L...

I love Ovaltine. My wife and I drink it regularly. The Chocolate Malt flavor is the best too.

Aside from a single month of animation at CalArts for this highschool program I was in, I haven't done any school (yet). All of my portfolio was made under my own direction.

So I would definitely say a degree or schooling isn't required, but it can be really helpful.

Animist, though I do sometimes play around with Classicist. I want my stories to make you feel something that makes you come back to them after you've already read them, yet have solid design and craftsmanship.

I want Amelie to find love. I want Mrs. Brisby to save her sick son. I want Marlin to find Nemo, Danny to land a big part, Luke to redeem his father. It's not that I don't know they're going to succeed, it's that I don't know how they are going to succeed, and I am going through their trials along ...

I think someone can still put their heart in a story, yet still not resonate with the audience. One example for me was Pride of Baghdad . I can tell it was something the creator(s) were deeply interested and passionate about doing, yet I didn't feel what the book was telling me I should be feeling. ...

Heimatærde - industrial group does a medieva Christmas hymn

And it's pretty sweet. They're hosting it for download until January, so get it now. Heimatærde - Nun komm der Heiden Heiland The rest of their stuff is really cool. It's pretty nice mix of phat dystopian industrial beatz and grim and frostbitten medieval tymes. Kind of like if Helium Vola or Qntal ...
