My first big project - The Great War

I'm undergoing my first big project as an illustrator and I thought I'd let the flight crew in on it.

The book is called The Great War and without going into detail, I thought I would post the link for the site here

I haven't managed to get any sketches up yet, but i'm sure i will soon! Enjoy!

Yeah, the goal on this one was to see how much stuff I could have going on without losing the entire composition. I think this one sort of dances the razor's edge and if it wasn't for the advice of the varying in saturation and line weight, I probably would've become frustrated and lost this one. Th...

Scott~ I can't tell you how much your post meant to me. I've been painting a lot recently and I never get to the point where I'm happy with anything that I made and your comment about saturation put it all back together for me. I went back and looked at my work that i DID like and that was the key, ...

Yeah, i had a pretty good feeling going into this, although, i think i got a little lost along the way in terms of the execution. :-/ I agree, i think some varied line weight would definetly help this drawing out, I think i might come back to it a little later and make some bolder lines in the compo...

'Red' promotional and a Trekkie.

This is a promo that I'm working on for a story about little red riding hood called 'red'. Just a sort of 'for fun' project that I can work on while I'm working on the Great War: http://www.danselleck.com/images/red-wolf.jpg This is a quick 1 hour sketch of a trekkie: http://www.danselleck.com/image...

I've been thinking about ignoring my linework and just painting. I wasn't sure how far I was going to push it because I really do consider my linework my strongest asset as an illustrator and I didn't really want to down play that at all, but lately i've been looking at a lot of artists that i'm lik...

Thanks guys. The difference between this technique and what I've been doing in the past is all in the application of the colors. I've found that the less analytical i am with the placement of my colors, the more energetic the finished product becomes (not to mention a much quicker creation process.)...
