Man. I'd say you need to ink that thing first. A lot of guys color straight from pencil... even myself on occasion, but that thing is kind of a mess. You're going to lose some of your more subtle line work because it's so close in tone to the gray of the paper if you just go willy-nilly adjusting le...

Very VERY cool, mike. I didn't notice that your drinking impeded your drawing much at all, either, so kudos on that too! :P

Hey Tim, As you know, I've been experimenting with Painter a bit myself. I have to say... I dan't quite tell what's going on in this piece and the edges are a bit muddy for my tastes. That said though there are some things I really like about it. The arcane blue swirlies are right up my alley. As we...

Thanks Blom and Plog. Painter's actually a lot of fun to work with. I think it's much more enjoyable that photoshop... but not quite as robust. As for a comparison... To me photoshop is a lot more utilitarian. I can use it to do fun stuff, but it's all business, insofar as how I get there. With Pain...

I actually like what you did in the back with the negative space/shapes more than the actual portrait.

Thanks Tim.

Yeah, Painter can get a little overwhelming sometimes, I like to just focus on one or two things, and stick with those, per picture.

Also, the drawing's not Golden Compass, though the movie of it does look, totally sweet.

Learning Painter... and some sketches

Hey guys, It's been a while, eh? I'm currently trying to learn Painter... which is no small task... so many knobs and dials. It's like flying a starship. Anyhow, here are my first two painter dealies: http://spencerranch.net/rachels-heroncrossing-50.jpg Apologies to Chris... I think this one kind of...

I like the eyes a whole lot, and the light they're casting

I'm not a fan of the illuminated back section. I think it's a neat idea... but in execution could use more reds and oranges and less bright white

It's cute, the clouds kind of get lost, I think... You might want to prop them up a bit... His chin/jawline look a little weird and my only other complaint is that I don't like that the banner with the crows (?) runs all the way to the edge of the page.

Good job, though, man. Keep it up!
