goRaina - It wasn't a question exactly, more like "polling the electorate." I'm interested in specifically what led people to their choice of equipment. And now I realize I didn't really describe what led me to mine. I'm actually a hand draftsman by trade, so I learned to use steel pens before anyth...

Regarding Ink-work

Inking has always been an area in which I've never come down firmly on a single set of tools or styles I prefer to use. Right now, I'm sort of going through a "ligne-clair" phase, using steel pens and technicals almost exclusively, with very thin, fine lines and only as much variation in line weight...

Although I must admit I find the humor rather obscure, your line art is simply excellent!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadget:_Invention,_Travel,_%26_Adventure There was an art book attatched to the game called "Inside Out With Gadget" that I once owned, but have since lost. I love the style, and it was similar to yours - what I've heard called "Tesseract Science," a mixture of high tech...

The upper object seems very similar to the Sensorama in Haruhiko Shono's Gadget. Did that inspire you? Have you ever heard of Gadget?

Is this a genuine cut-paper collage, or a computer effect? Sad that I actually have to ASK that. I mean, either way it's glorious.

Self-Caricatures

These are just some small sketches I do on the side to practice caricature and exaggeration. I use myself as the subject because when I do other people they tend to get upset.

I like the warm colors over the cool ones. Reminds me of shadow puppets I saw in Thailand to a certain extent. If you want to make a comic out of it, I'd letter with a more naturalistic font, though; maybe something like Anime Ace or Komika. Sans-serif block letters are hard on the eyes, considering...

I'm Mathieu - pleasure to "meet" you here. I'm a writer and graphic artist. Québecois by genetics, American by choice. I'm an architect, draftsman and renderer most of the time, but I squeeze in my own illustration work around the edges. Either way, I get to draw for a living, so it's pretty sweet. ...

Thanks! I'm glad that character was immediately recognizable - my concern was that he would look like a man-in-a-suit rather than totally mechanical. In early sketches he was too "bulky" and his face looked like a mask.

Preliminaries, Illustrations (and other Sketches, etc)

This is my first post here, and I'm always been a bit uncomfortable with posting my work anyplace, however this is a preliminary for a cover. I am always trying to improve my work. I know it is hard to understand without its story perhaps, but perhaps when the story this goes to is complete I will p...
