I love the first one. The use of color in the buildings is really nice. So is the play between graphic/rendered shapes.

His calf has problems. And, as stated before, you ink lines need work. That doesn't mean they need to be slick -- look at Dave Cooper or Woodring -- but it needs to look more intentional. Practice makes perfect!

My biggest problem with the film is that there are no surprises. That is, I had read the barest of synopsis's before entering the theater -- barber, meat pies, etc. -- and that's exactly what the movie is. I think the problem is that it is a musical -- the plot has to move at a glacial pace in order...

Frank — Just curious, do you color in RGB or CMYK? I know comics are generally colored in CMYK but, having done a lot of photo retouching in the past, I'm used to the work-in-RGB-until-you're-done-tweaking-the-image mindset. I'm not sure that this is the best for illustration work. What's been your ...

I don't know what you mean by "cell shading" but I think what you want to know about is flatting. Here's a tutorial I just found: http://www.stevetruett.com/Tutorials/Photoshop/flatting/flatting.html This isn't how I do it, but it should get you started. Google "comic book flatting" and I'm sure you...

I used 1and1 to buy my domain and A Small Orange for hosting. Their plans are cheap and reasonable and they are really, really good at responding to support tickets fast. Beware hosting services that offer too-good-to-be-true bandwidth and storage -- such companies usually put restrictions on the am...

btw, my browser shows this image very desaturated, if you are seeing what I am seeing here, it's pretty off colorwise. I was going for a really vibrant red. If anybody knows why is this might happen please do tell. Before you "Save For Web" in Photoshop, go to Edit > Convert to Profile and change t...

I am still spending most of my evenings play Fire Emblem. I am seriously addicted to this game. I'm not one to play through a game more than once but, since I'm playing on easy, I'm seriously considering trying to get through the game again on normal or difficult.

My wife and I finally pulled Galaxy off the shelf on Christmas -- we've had the game for a while, but no time to play it. What a beautiful and fun game! It took a us a couple of levels to get used to the 3D aspects -- especially gravity (walking upside-down, etc.) -- but the game does a good job of ...

I just finished up a Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn binge. I've never played the series before, but it's a lot of fun -- reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics for the GBA. Maybe it's just because I haven't played any games on the 360 or the PS3, but I'm really happy with the graphics. Perhaps I should have...

The Acme Novelty Date Book vol. 2

I just got Chris Ware's new sketchbook in the mail today -- wow. If you want to feel inferior as an artist, this is the book to buy. Sheesh. The stuff in here is crazy beautiful. Sigh.

Anyway, if you're a fan, you'll want a copy.
