There's nothing wrong with lines, but I'd just be a little more selective -- you don't have to keep them all. For instance, the yellow thigh armor on the big guy -- you could probably lose the lines there, easy. Is the line that separates the chest armor from the neck-hole necessary? Does there need...

My two cents: Stop outlining everything.

It's funny, the cartoons on your blog aren't outlined, but your more "realistic" work is. What's up with that?

I really enjoy the colors and your style. Very nice. The man's forearms and hands are a little confusing to me. I guess he's clutching his chest, but that wasn't immediately apparent. Is his hand overlapping his beard? Also, my initial read was that the axe was in his hands, since the shaft points t...

You're not going to understand an industry until you get into the industry. You need to get a job. Don't worry if it's ideal. You will never know what you want to do until you do it. And that requires trying things. And, as I wrote before, the secret to getting a job is... CALL PEOPLE. No one wants ...

Well, I graduated from college with a degree in Illustration and ended up in print advertising doing design & art direction because there was a lot of money in the field. However, I eventually left because it wasn't satisfying. I can do design, but I don't enjoy it like I enjoy drawing. I entered th...

A Production Artist, if used in reference to advertising/graphic design, is the person responsible for doing final preparations to a job before it sees print. After the creative part of the job is finished, the art director or designer passes it off to a production artist to deal with any minor revi...

For some reason artists have a hard time justifying to themselves the purchase of the tools necessary for their trade. If you were a carpenter, would you balk at buying a hammer? If you were hammering all day, every day, would you balk at buying a nice hammer or, maybe, a nail gun? What about a tabl...

I too loved Ender's Game. I've read it multiple times. Which is why I was saddened by the recent news that Orson Scott Card is an extreme homophobe and has called for the outlawing of homosexuality. I'm not down with hate speech. I'm not taking any position here that his work shouldn't be read becau...

1. Quark would be good to layout your book, but not the pages. That is, you should finalize your page in Photoshop (from a scan, digital, whatever) and then drop the final tif file into Quark. Quark will allow you to take all your pages and design them into a nice looking book -- that's what Quark d...

As an exhibition of Blender 3D's capabilities, I think BBB is a great little short. The film looks pretty fantastic. However, as far as story and animation are concerned, I don't think it holds up to what you'd find, say, in a Pixar short. There are some glaring logic problems in the narrative and t...

Frank -- I would like to follow the news on your blog but you don't seem to offer an rss feed. I keep track of a lot of illustrator's work that way (I am lazy). It looks like your blog is hosted by Blogger -- any chance you'll turn on a feed?

I've been playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 as well. Since the format wars are over, I picked up a PS3 for Blu-ray and gaming.
