I don't know, it sort of reminds me of the cut scenes from a Japanese RPG video game. I think readers will get tired of pressing an arrow to see the next panel. (I only say this because I get tired of pressing the x button in the aforementioned video games.) In the end, I think it starts to enter a ...

The illustrations of Nathan Olsen

Hey gang, I've been posting some of my cartoons over in this thread , but I've also been meaning to post some more of my illustration work. Some of you may remember me posting this piece a while back: http://www.nateomedia.com/portfolio/albums/currentwork/nathanolsen_dancelovebotdance.jpg It won Dis...

I don't bother with erasing, so I don't know how the Prismacolors hold up in those circumstances. When I'm inking something, I just pencil with the col-erase pencils and remove them with Photoshop (Hue/Saturation > Yellows > expand the color spectrum to include oranges > Lightness = 100). I picked t...

I've taken to pencilling a lot with vermillion col-erase pencils. I find the orange-ish color is easier to eliminate in Photoshop than blue. When I need something more finished, I have really taken to Tombow drafting pencils. For inking, I like Prismacolor's throw away technical pens. I think they a...

Thank you! This has been a very interesting little project to work on. I think there is a lot of merit to setting up a weekly goal that has to be met, no matter what. I'm not completely happy with every drawing and I'm still working out my style a bit, but the deadline is forcing me to just live wit...

I love your art. Your line art and coloring are fantastic. You admit to a tendency towards realism and I would go with that -- it is by far the strongest stuff. Maybe when you want to go "cartoony" you should compromise with characters that have a little more volume/3d-ishness to them? Kind of like ...

Heheh. You know, I actually started playing video games again as "research". I bought a 360 to see why so many people were talking about the revolutionary storytelling in BioShock. It was great, but not all that revolutionary. For better or worse, my brother-in-law got me to play Halo 3 online (aft...

Haiku Comics

Boy, it's been a while since I've posted. I just started up a new project with my brother and I thought I'd share. He's been writing these fun little monster haikus and he asked me if I'd like to make comics out of them. It sounded like fun, so we've been working on them for a couple of weeks now an...

I am confused. If all you are trying to do is exactly copy the game, then what is the point of this?

It's really hard to make recommendations when you don't know what a person has read. You mention loving Blankets, but is that because you love the subject matter (genre) or the quality of the work? Sticking with the same genre (auto-bio), have you tried anything by Adrian Tomine? Jessica Abel's La P...
