I'd like to chime in as Devil's advocate and say that all those rules can be broken :) Your method and medium dictate your style to a degree and breaking and bending the rules can sometimes be exactly what you need to shift style in the direction you want. You've got a decent depth going there. One one to take it to the next level might be differentiate between the distant ridge and the one closest to the viewer. Either through saturation, value or blur. I'd almost say decreasing the saturation in the background and bumping it up on the bubble/man mig...
