Wow, Og, the character design, the rendering, the color... all charming as hell. You do a nice job of taking the realistic buildings and planes and characaturing them so that they fit the cartoony style.

Good luck, smaragddrache. I'm going in with some friends for a table too. I'm planning on mostly promotion for the online strip, and selling prints and sketches. Maybe I'll see you! I need to work out the permit stuff. I'm not sure if I can get one down here in San Diego which is valid statewide, or...

I think avoiding Talking Head Syndrome is a big one for preventing cardboard characters. More specifically, exposition through dialogue is one of the big yawn-inducers. I try not to explain anything that can be shown or inferred instead. That also tends to make the story tighter, since the character...

heart isn't about plot or justice, it's about whether or not you can feel for the people you're expected to watch. I think this is really close to the mark. A story moves me when I care about the protagonist, and I want them to get what they want. What they want becomes as important to me as it is ...

Just a quick thanks from another artist with low self-esteem lurking and reading your advice, and finding it inspirational.

Thanks! :o

I'm an animist who is also a wanna-be classicist. My characters give me reproachful stares when I'm not giving them anything to do. Good, solid artwork, color, and composition are the first thing that grab my attention in a comic (classicist); but good, solid characters, setting, and story keep me r...

Thanks, everyone, for your help. I've gotten my hands on the Earthbound spiral-bound notebooks, and now I know where to look for them.

Vince, thanks for the feedback! Good call on the backgrounds. Environments and architecture are going to be one of my next big hurdles. It is something I have rarely thought about in the past, since I am usually drawing individual figures with minimal environment while sketching. I will work on it!

Thanks Chad. Just knowing who has had it in the past and what the name of the item is will help me to find it or order it. I'll check B&N again.

Yes! Rocky and Pencrush, you rock! Thanks so much.

The only way that this could get better is if someone knows where to find the spiral-bound ones. :D

Seth, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, that tiger was my nemesis as well as the heroes'. I couldn't make it look the same way twice, the same size twice, and I struggled with every single drawing of it. It looks lots bigger as it is grappling with Moira, but I think you're right, it's too small in e...

Actually that does help. I can always drive up there if I get desperate. (I'm in San Diego.) Do they have 'em at a student store on campus or something?
