I'll let others talk about how much to charge because I've only been paid once to make art professionally. The best advice I can give is to make sure that you only sell the reproduction rights to your art, not the art itself (or your time for making it). If you sell the art you lose copyright on it....

Well, I for one have been a fan of Empty Words for a while. So in my ego-centric little world you are not a small fry. Looks like I'll have to go out and read Gloomy Nancy now as well. Your art looks great, but then I would expect nothing less. The Empty Words poster is my favourite (great colours e...

My two cents: There are lots of people who use Photoshop for all sorts of things, especially colour, but very few people who can DRAW in Photoshop and make it look good. I would recommend either scanning in drawings and using them in Photoshop (if you have a scanner) or using a program called Painte...

The stuff on your site is also very good (see above re: astoundingly amazing) and I also like your use of patterns. And I suppose I'd better do the other "c" as ...

As for the uniform being "uninspired," I think it all depends on how you look at it. I hate it when sci fi illustrators design costumes and landscapes that are supposed to look "cool" and "spacey" but aren't very relevant to the story. Paperback cover artists are particulary bad for this. The clothe...

I love this book. I've read it to groups of kids though, and I got mixed reviews. One group didn't like it, the other very much did. I think the difference was in how I introduced it to them- it is a very unconventional style of storytelling.

Ooh look- a Flight forum! (stands around in awe for a minute). Um, so anyways... I have a bachelor's degree in fine art, a teaching degree (elementary), I took Sheridan College's one-year "advanced" illustration program (glad to see some other Sheridan grads here as well), and I took a couple of tho...
