Might be the wrong kind of paper - if the paper absorbs the ink when it's supposed to just sit on top, the colors get really dark and mushy.

Yeah, I used to read fantasy novels voraciously, and then I hit on the George R. R. Martin ones and... well, I've lost most of my drive to read any new fantasy novels. As a reader, I'm always rooting for characters to die when they do stupid things - I want a lethal, gritty fantasy world. These book...

I like the latest and the cat vomit one. That one strikes me as really funny, for some reason.

Seriously sucks what happened to your car... Kids under third, fourth grade - you can't tell whether they're boys or girls without distinctive hair/names/clothes, as long as they've got a pair of pants on. They just haven't branched off physically. I get yelled at to get out of the girls' restrooms ...

Ha, I've had days like that... I can't remember how I found your site originally, but it was ages ago... http://www.froghatstudios.com/art/fragilefish.jpg <-- that has got to be one of the best drawings of all time...

Big fan of Frank & Frank, always happy to see more of them!

Yeah, our local library has a ton of comics - the kids' librarian and the young adult collection librarian work with the comic store guy to buy a variety of comics, not just batman or manga or whatever. They've got Flight one and two. :) HOWEVER, even the best library I've been to has had complete l...

Wow, that looks familiar. I guess it was October of 03 that I was down at CalArts and we had fires on 3 sides, being in a little valley thing surrounded by mountains. We could go out and sit on the lawn and watch the fire creeping slowly down the hills towards us... a really amazing thing to see.

Just... wow. I love the bear. It really does have the feeling of the Golden Compass world - worn and dark, but also glowy and interesting. Yeah.

Yeah... it's weird, because back when Beetlejuice and Nightmare were released, they weren't screamingly popular, and that was BECAUSE they were Tim Burton films. It seems like suddenly, since Big Fish, there's a lot of animosity towards Burton like suddenly he's a lame knockoff of the style that he ...

Tove Jansson and the Moomins

Tove Jansson's books are amazing. I grew up with them, but they're one of the few books I was crazy about as a little kid that I can reread and be just as crazy about now. You know how it is - sometimes the memories you have overshoot the actual material they're based on. That's not the case with th...

Pom Poko: recently released on DVD by Disney, directed by Isao Takahata is a tale of a group of racoon's fight to preserve their wilderness amist urban survival. And they fight using their testicles. Isao Takahata, very underappreciated. Aw man, I saw what felt like the first four hours of that mov...

Ooh, yeah. North by Northwest is great. It makes you really nervous when you're out on a walk and a crop duster goes by, though... My personal favorite is The Lady Vanishes. That was the movie that made Hitchcock click for me. That film, to me, is pure entertainment, with the rest of the stuff all t...

Anansi Boys is a sequel of sorts to his other novel, American Gods. I don't know whether it's just got characters in common or if it's part of a Grand Scheme of Things (though if you look at the Sandman, it's probably part of a Grand Scheme of Things even if it DOES only share a few characters in co...

That book is great, but then I like pretty much anything he turns out. Check out The Wolves in the Walls if you haven't already - more McKean + Gaiman picture book goodness.
