after scanning i usually open it up in photoshop and adjust the image using curves. it makes the black of the lines really pop. if you don't know how to manually use curves, just push shift+ctrl+L to automatically do it.
i think that's what you're asking for anyways.

amaaaaazing stuff.

is painter an easy program to use? im very fluent in photoshop and have been using it for years. will the learning curve on painter be easy for me?
