Big, dumb pirate fun is how I'd summarize this movie. . Give the people exactly what they want=make $132 million on opening weekend. On one level it is sort of offensive to me that they could be so calculating and crass with it...Make sure there are x amount of fight scenes, y times that Johnny Dep...

I liked it. It was bad in exactly the way the second one was so careful not to be...baaad dialogue, Halle Berry talked too much, things happened for no other reason than they look pretty (why'd he have to do that with the bridge? So awesome, and so unnecessary.) It was enjoyable though. Totally. I w...

Pixar has earned my trust. Everything that comes out of there is great, and has been since the beginning.

Plus, I'm a car guy, so I have optimistic expectations for Cars.

Ohhh, YES! If only Bryan Singer could have done this and X3. At least we'll get one amazing comic-book movie this year.

"It's a bird."
"It's a plane."
"It's..."
"You wanted to see me?"

Ahahahaha.

I agree. It seemed like a "me too" type knock-off of better Pixar products like Finding Nemo. There's only so much mileage to wring out of "hyperactive funny-sounding," "hip teen+embarassing dad," and "bumpkin family" stereotypes. It was just kinda dull and a little bit forced. Gladys and the Animal...

The Fountainhead-Ayn Rand

Has anyone else read it? I'm in the middle and loving it. It is very much an artist's book, or at least it should appeal immensely to the kind of people that come here. It's about, in a nutshell, how god damn hard it is to be a real, uncompromising individual, not only in absolute terms, but in the ...

Wow. This is amazing. Listening to it right now. Their whole asthetic is extremely cool, too.

I just found out that the Wachowskis wrote it. Could be interesting or it could be totally preposterous. I thought it was a litttle of both...well, a lot interesting, and a couple preposterous touches. They must have had someone looking over their shoulders during production to make sure it didn't ...

The Hills Have Eyes

...was pretty cool. It was incredibly intense, mostly because in the first half-hour Aja (director) makes it abundantly clear that action/horror movie conventions are getting shot in the head without buildup or remorse. (hint hint) More than just being graphic, it was scary because the antagonist mu...

I just discovered it recently also. I thought it was cool, but it seems like their criteria are too broad...major key tonality, basic rock songwriting, vocal harmony, etc. It ended up not being as focused as I expected.
Still think it's a cool project and a better idea.

Oh man. I've been playing "Crooked Teeth" on repeat for the last couple days. The lyrics, those chords, that bridge...so good. I really like "Plans" as a whole. Soul Meets Body is still listenable, Marching Bands, I'll Follow You, all good. ...whose tears didn't care, they just hung in the air/and r...

From me blog: The first act of the film feels a little like a psychedelic warp drive through the early exposition in the book I'd agree with that. They did have a lot of material to cover, though. There may be spoilers, depending on what kind of things spoil movies for you: I didn't like it nearly ...
