Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

I made it. Despite a week of homelessness, moving across five time zones from Michigan to Hawaii, setting up a new apartment, spending all of yesterday at the DMV buying a car, and having my internet connection cut for three days, 30 Days of Characters was still completed on time. I'm quite pleased ...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

30 Days of Environments has just ended. As I anticipated it wasn't quite as good as 30 Days of Robots , but there are some decent ones in there. I'm showing some good technique again, but I just don't seem to be able to make it happen consistently. Here's the top five, comments encouraged: Silent W...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

I've just finished 30 Days of Robots. I'm really proud of some of this work (as compared to a lot of my previous work, not necessarily when held up against anybody else around here). It show another vast leap in technique, and an enormous improvement over my previous childish, clunky, cell-shady stu...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

Another 30 Days Series, 30 Days of Abstraction. At least it started as 30 Days of Abstraction, but it turned into "30 Days of Whatever the Heck I Want." Each piece was pretty quick, usually not more than an hour or two to put together, but I apply some better techniques, if a bit clumsily. Opposing ...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

I had wanted to do 30 Days of Exobiology ever since I first came up with the idea for my 30 Days series, and I finally felt like my skills were just barely inadequate for the task. Ultimately it took me three months to complete the project, in part because each piece was so technically involved. A f...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

I've noticed that Illustrator doesn't appear to be an overly popular program around here, but it was one of the programs I wanted to learn so I dropped 30 Days on it. The results show the single most significant improvement to date, but that's largely due to the fact that I had never used it before....

Re: New guy, new work, looking for a critique

Last three pages for a while. I'll be on hiatus for a few weeks. Hopefully when I pick back up in January I'll be able to maintain the regularity. Re: New guy, new work, looking for a critique

I think this page represents another slight leap in skill. I'm trying to figure out how best to increase the scenery detail without taking a week to produce a page. I've tried to achieve that to a certain extent here by increasing my use of digital tools. Page 16 http://grandwanderer.com/Art/Comics/...

Re: New guy, new work, looking for a critique

here's another one. Trying for another action sequence. I fell like I'm struggling a bit with getting the proper punch out of my action words/sound effects. Any thoughts?

Re: New guy, new work, looking for a critique

well, here it is, after seven and a half months, a new page. My hope is to start them up regularly again. I've built up quite a bit of content on my site , so feel free to visit and comment if you feel so inclined. Page 14 http://grandwanderer.com/Art/Comics/Silent%20Machine/SMPG/SMPG14.jpg

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

My latest project, "30 Days of Lessons" just wrapped up yesterday. Filtering through the thousands of online tutorials for something reasonably well-written and doable and then wading though it's questionably constructed steps was a singularly frustrating experience. Good artists don't always make g...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

I have just completed my most recent 30 Days Series: 30 Days of Characters. I've included what I thought to be the top 5 pieces below and the rest can be found on my website (grandwanderer.com). I do think I have improved yet again, but the first image in the series is also in the top 5 shown bellow...

Freedom, a 24 Hour Comic

To celebrate my retirement, I created a short comic entitled "Freedom". The entire comic was put together in 24 continuous hours of work with fairly respectable results. The idea was borrowed from Scott McCloud, though it doesn't quite meet the original criteria. I expected to produce 5 pages in 24 ...

Re: Overcoming the Digital Artist Toddler stage

Below is my latest creation. It's completely freehand without reference material and it's not too bad. That said, I'm looking for a pretty harsh critique. What did I do wrong, and how do I do it better?
