i wish i could have read something like that when i was younger. my mother told me my cartooning was crap, my father told me comics are crap, and my "friends" (who, i suppose would qualify as the "peers" mentioned in frank's first post) in college became irate if i didn't follow their advise to perf...

i love penciled comics, when they're done right, and I favor my own work in pencils--i never have found a thin enough pen nib to satisfy me. however, i do want my penciled comics to be clean. it is distracting to see the crossed placement lines on faces of characters. if someone is doing a comic in ...

i agree with the "get in where you fit in" comment. i'm like you--i'm doing a ridiculously large project without doing any sort of small ones as warm up. i had intended to do small ones, following the conventional wisdom, but, i was impatient to start the project i actually wanted to do . impatient ...

mm. i'm by no means a pro illustrator, but i wouldn't start a habit of "eating it as business costs," unless you gave her some bogus "garunted will last forever!" agreement. i wouldn't necessarily re-draw it either. she clearly likes THAT piece, and people often get attachments to particular images....

more panel inks

reworking pages is so much harder than just doing them well in the first place.
critique/advice is deeply appreciated!

the guy accidentally shaved through a sideburn. it's very cute. you know--and this is no remark on skill, honestly. for speed's sake, if you wanted to make things quickly, you could make a standard set of backgrounds for re-use on panels like this, where only the characters change, and just lay the ...

one piece better than watchmen? . . . i ADORE one piece. however, i love it as what it is--a really goofy and fun adventure for kids. i respect watchmen as what it is: a dark and well made tale for older teens/adults. they are not for the same audience, nor are they in the same genre or really posse...

you shouldn't feel any guilt about using watercolor. it's a beautiful effect. i agree that you need a different title font--and you need to not ruin the page with bright retina-scorching red. it seems woefully out of place with your beautiful grey-toned comic. you said you were hand-lettering before...

that depends on how gullible your audience is. seriously. many people find sci-fi to be more palatable than fantasy, because instead of magic, which requires a significant suspension of disbelief, you use science to do everything. and there's people that cannot take either of them, and people that c...
